Joy Comes in the Mourning: Experiencing God’s Heart in Our Loss, Longing, and Lack

I’m currently working on my first book, Joy Comes in the Mourning: Experiencing God’s Heart in Our Loss, Longing, and Lack, which explores what it looks like to meet God in seasons of suffering, unanswered prayers, and unmet longings. The words in these chapters are borne from my experience of finding God in the dark places, and of realizing that he does not turn away from our sorrow, but rather meets us within it—tenderly, faithfully, and gently.

“It takes courage to be honest in our grief and sadness and to bring encouragement to others as you share. Lauren is truthful in her sorrow and she is truthful in pointing to our one true hope as she shares her journey.”

— Cathy

This book is for the moments that don’t resolve quickly—the grief that lingers, the prayers that feel unanswered, and the seasons where joy feels distant or even impossible.

Joy Comes in the Mourning: Experiencing God’s Heart in Your Loss, Longing, and Lack is a collection of Scripture-rooted reflections, honest prayers, and gentle encouragement for those learning to trust God in the tension of sorrow and hope. It walks slowly through places of loss and longing, not to rush you toward resolution, but to help you meet God right in the middle of it.

Forthcoming in 2027…

Rather than offering quick answers, this book invites you into a deeper way of being with God in suffering. In it I offer a language for lament, honor the losses and longings you hold, and introduce joy not as a band-aid or a mask for the pain, but rather as a quiet companion within it.

These words are written for anyone who has wondered if God is still near in their hardest seasons, and it offers steady words for learning how to meet with him when everything feels heavy.
