Welcome, friend. I know this life can be heavy and hard. My desire is that my words would bring you hope, healing, truth, and rest; that my words would be a reminder to you that you are not alone, that God is good, and that there is hope.

how to study the Bible [part 2]

December 19, 2018May 28, 20191 Comment

Oftentimes our study of Scripture is clouded by our preconceived opinions, our experience-driven feelings, or our false understanding of who God is... I need a method that forces me to slow down and see Scripture for what it is and what it says, not what I want it to say.

i’m still brought near to tears when i think about how sweet this past weekend was. three dear friends who have been in the trenches with me and who have faithfully prayed for baby B threw us the most stunning baby shower.
✨moments of joy from january (and december)
our journey here was filled with mountains and valleys, highs and lows, joy and pain. but every step (and every year of waiting) led us to this particular and sacred little life, for which we are so incredibly thankful.

in light of our recent announcement, i wanted to share again this liturgy i wrote for seeing a friend’s pregnancy announcement. my heart aches as i consider the bruises that i know our announcement presses on, the hurt that i know someone else’s joy can elicit when it’s the very thing you’re longing for. i have been there, and i pray that in your places of pain the Lord would be abundantly near.
we have the most wonderful news. a little baby bowerman will be joining us in the spring.

a prayer for today: for rest
the month of september flew by in a blur. filled with juggling jobs, moving across town, packing and unpacking (plus an unexpected ER visit—don’t worry! everyone’s fine!).

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith – more previous than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire – may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
